The Lost Hour: Canterbury College

On June 21st Claiming Sp_ce collaborated with students from Canterbury College to help the citizens of Canterbury reclaim their lost hours.

The students participated in a 4-week workshop learning about digital media in public spaces, projection mapping, storytelling, and improvisation. They conducted interviews with various members of the community about their relationship to time, and created little video shorts exploring how they spend their own hours.

This material became the basis for a pop-up digital media and performance intervention that took place near The Foundry in the heart of the city. The students set up a ‘Lost Hour’ booth where people could fill out a form in order to reclaim their ‘lost hours.’

The public were then invited to participate in a semi-interactive performance that aimed to give them back an hour. The students sang, danced, performed karaoke with the audience, and improvised theatrical scenes based on the audience’s answers to their lost hour claim form.

The evening ended by watching the documentary and video shorts created over the previous four weeks.
